I am a professor of education at California State University, San
Bernardino where I am very committed to working with teachers to try to
meet the needs of all students, including Native Americans. During the
first semester of the 1996-97 school year, I established and coordinated a
student teaching program at the Sherman Indian High School in Riverside,
California. (I have been following the replies to a recent request for
contact info.) I spent at least one day each week at Sherman helping
four student teachers (in the areas of English, science, social science,
and physical education) become aware of and responsive to the needs of
their students.
I would like to learn about the experiences that others have had as student
teachers or in working with students at BIA schools or any other schools
with Native American students.
