ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION AVAILABILITY

San Jose State University

POSITION: Director of Student Outreach and Recruitment

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Student Outreach and Recruitment (SOAR)
provides leadership for all University recruitment efforts. Specifically,
the Director performs the following duties:

- supervises the department's recruitment staff and day-to-day operations
(to include personnel and budgetary functions),

- plans, develops and evaluates marketing/recruiting strategies (to include
publications, direct mail marketing, enrollment technology, phone contact,
open houses, fairs, on-site events, etc.) for a diverse student population,

- promotes relationships between the University and the diverse regional
community, and

- works with academic units and other related University departments (such
as International Student Services, Disability Resource Center, Re-entry
Program, EOP, etc.) to conduct outreach to and plan articulation for K-12
schools, community colleges, businesses, and international markets.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must have demonstrated
effectiveness in the following areas:

- managing programs in a diverse environment and a commitment to educational
equity efforts; specifically, understanding the educational needs and
objectives of the multicultural and multilingual communities in and around
the Silicon Valley,

- recruiting and enrolling students from diverse and underrepresented
communities (to include economic, cultural and racial backgrounds, sexual
orientation, disability, age and gender) on all levels: local, regional and
national,

- working collaboratively on recruitment/enrollment projects across
departments and divisions at the University, and area K-12 schools and
community colleges,

- supervising a large and diverse staff,

- budget planning and oversight,

- developing, implementing and evaluating recruitment programs, marketing
strategies, and enrollment goals/targets,

- excellent interpersonal, written communication and analytic skills, and

- ability to utilize technology in integrated enrollment management processes.
The position requires a minimum of five years of increasingly responsible
experience in education, three of which should be in higher education
administration in admissions, outreach and recruitment, retention, etc.
Master's degree required. Desirable: experience at a large, urban public
university, experience with international recruiting and working with
community agencies and businesses on innovative enrollment projects,
multicultural/ multilingual training or experience, experience working with
Spanish and Asian language speaking populations.

COMPENSATION: Salary is competitive and commensurate with background and
experience of the individual selected (Administrator III Position). SJSU
offers excellent fringe benefits. All rights associated with this
appointment are governed by the Management Personnel Plan adopted by the CSU
Board of Trustees. The position is excluded from the collective bargaining
process and does not gain permanent status.
