get nn-intro archives native-l
(that's the numeral "1" in "tamvm1" and the letter "l" in "native-l").
The article that will be returned to you is written to explain retrieving
articles from the NATIVE-L archives (I guess I should revise it some day
to make it more general), so you have to remember to replace the name
"native-l" with "nat-lang" in the text of that article in order to use
its instructions to retrieve from NAT-LANG.
Also, while I have your attention, I'd like to report on an interesting
development in the story reported by Lisa Mitten (lmitten@vms.cis.pitt.edu)
in January. Lisa wrote that there were errors in the work _Atlas of
the World's Languages (Christopher Mosely, General Editor), published by
Routledge recently. The errors occur in the section on North American
Indian Languages.
I received a message last weekend from a representative of the publisher
which said they are "eager to make repair errors made in above referenced
title but need copies of postings on various lists to get these corrections
out to concerned scholars." I have passed this message on to Lisa, who
has in turn relayed it to Victor Golla, Secretary-Treasurer of SSILA, the
Society for the Study of the Indigenous Languages of the Americas. Anyone
wanting to know more about this process or who might have information to
help improve the next edition of this work should probably get in touch
with Dr. Golla, who can coordinate communications with the publisher. He
can be reached at either "gollav@axe.humboldt.edu" (Dept. of Ethnic Studies,
Humboldt State University, Arcata, CA 95521) or at "golla@nic.csu.net."
Anyone who did not see Lisa's article, or who just wants to practice with
the LISTSERV retrieval commands, can send the following text in a message
to the LISTSERV address (see above) to get a copy of that article plus a
copy of the retrieval instructions article I mentioned:
// job echo=no
get nn-intro archives native-l
database search dd=rules
//rules dd *
select * in nat-lang since january where subject contains 'flawed ling'
print all
/*
Please let me know if you have any questions.
