I know of one very worthwhile French-language work on the history, present
state and future of the indigenous languages of Quebec. It's simply called
"Les langues autochtones du Quebec", ed. Jacques Maurais, published by the
Quebec government in 1992 under the auspices of the Bureau de la langue
francaise. It could be difficult to get a copy - I believe they've sold out.
Issues 3 and 4 of Volume XLVII (1987) of the journal _America indigena_
were devoted to the topic of "Revitalizacion de las lenguas indigenas" and
contain country-by-country surveys. Different perspectives
and standards give these articles a rather uneven quality, and there isn't
much attention paid to historical issues. Still, you might find them
worthwhile.
I'd be interested if anyone else can recommend good up-to-date works in
these languages.
