Anyway, a fair number of mis-directed articles have been coming in lately,
usually addressed to "NativeNet@gnosys.svle.ma.us." Please be advised
that though this address does appear in the "From:" line of messages from
one of the LISTSERV sites (TAMVM1 for all but the NAT-EDU list, which uses
INDYCMS) the address *should not* be used for posting articles. (When I
get a chance, I plan to modify my software so that the "NativeNet" address
is no longer used, in fact, since it seems to lead to too much confusion
and mis-directed messages and articles. The reason the address has been
used is to capture mis-directed error messages which a few mail systems
send to the address in the "From:" line of undeliverable messages.)
In order to post a article to one of the NativeNet lists, you need to send
it in a message addressed to one of the following addresses.
for list: use this address:
NATIVE-L native-l@gnosys.svle.ma.us
NATCHAT natchat@gnosys.svle.ma.us
NAT-EDU nat-edu@gnosys.svle.ma.us
NAT-HLTH nat-hlth@gnosys.svle.ma.us
NAT-LANG nat-lang@gnosys.svle.ma.us
NAT-1492 nat-1492@gnosys.svle.ma.us
If you are responding to a previously-posted article, and you use the
"reply" command of your mail software, your message should go to the
correct address, due to the presence of a "Reply-To:" header line in
NativeNet articles that you receive from the TAMVM1 and INDYCMS machines.
Some mail systems out there appear to not work correctly with respect to
return addresses, and may use either the "From:" address or the "From_"
address (which occurs in the very first line of the message header). If
you are unlucky enough to be using such a mail system, you will have to
manually correct the "To:" address in your message before sending it.
Users of the PINE mail system, whose popularity is steadily increasing
(despite the funny way it provides options that serve mainly to confuse,
particularly with regard to mailing lists) should be aware that they
should answer "No" to the question of the PINE mail system "Reply to all
recipients?" Unless your defaults are set in a non-standard way, you
should be able to just hit the "ENTER" (or "RETURN") key to answer this
question appropriately. (This question pertains to a message you've
received which contains multiple addresses, usually in the "To:" and "Cc:"
lines. It has nothing to do with mailing lists and the recipients of mail
directed to them. Rather it is talking about the possibly multiple
recipients of an ordinary mail message of which you are one.)
If you have any questions pertaining to this or any other technical matter
regarding the NativeNet lists, please direct them to me.
Thanks.
Gary
