Helen Jorstad has been kind enough to alert us to the existence of 11 videos
on immersion language teaching put out by the Montgomery County Public
Schools in Maryland. Here are the titles:
Topics are: FOREIGN LANGUAGE IMMERSION: AN INTRODUCTION, a 23-min. tape
perfect for general public, parents, etc. Others: TEACHING CULTURE IN THE
IMMERSION CLASSROOM, SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION, NEGOTIATION OF MEANING,
TEACHING SOCIAL STUDIES IN THE IMMERSION CLASSROOM, TEACHING MATHEMATICS AND
SCIENCE IN THE IMMERSION CLASSROOM, WHAT IT MEANS TO BE AN IMMERSION
TEACHER, TEACHING READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS IN THE IMMERSION CLASSROOM:
GRADES 3-6, TEACHING READING LANGUAGE ARTS IN THE IMMERSION CLASSROOM:
GRADES K-2, AND PLANNING FOR INSTRUCTION IN THE IMMERSION CLASSROOM.
We thought this was exciting enough to forward to the lists...of course, we
overworked, isolated types get excited very easily these days! All kidding
aside, these look like they'll be a priceless addition to our "arsenal" of
teaching tools, and we hope y'all will find them worthwhile, too. I don't
have the phone number handy, but I'll have it at work tomorrow and can post
it then. Or just give us a ring at 1-800-492-5745, nationwide.
The Montgomery County school official who took our order for all 11 was
either overjoyed or in shock...I'm sure they'd be glad to hear from more
people.
We'll tell more about them after we see 'em, if anyone's interested.
'Til then, best wishes from all of us here at the Program!
