This is just a quick note to let you know that I'm still in the process
of clearing away the backlog of articles that I mentioned a couple of
days ago. I hope to be able to give the "go-ahead" signal within another
day or two. Meanwhile, I'm mostly holding new articles that come in for
the NATIVE-L and NATCHAT lists (the other lists, NAT-LANG, NAT-EDU and
NAT-HLTH are low enough in their volumes that I'm processing new articles
for those lists as they arrive, since there was no significant backlog).
I hope that I'll be able to pass the moderation responsibilities for at
least NATIVE-L and NATCHAT back to Jay and/or on to someone else before
long, but it will probably be at least a couple of weeks, since I will
need to train any new volunteers and it will be at least that long before
Jay expects to be able to be back with us.
While I have your attention, I'd like to mention that I did a phone
interview this morning for an Associated Press story about NativeNet that
will be filed later today. Under the rules of that organization, they
cannot send me a copy of the story, but they said that it will be offered
to all publications that subscribe to their wire service. If anyone spots
a copy of the article in the next day or two, please let me know. Thanks.
Once I've had a chance to get better caught up following the extended trip
from which I've just returned, I plan to begin writing and posting a series
of articles indicating some potential new directions for NativeNet, which
will require some help from you folks out there. Those of you who have
been subscribers for a while will recognize some of the things I'll be
talking about as ideas that we've been kicking around for some time. I'll
look forward to establishing a dialogue with the NativeNet community and
to working with you on projects of mutual interest.
That's all for now.
Gary
