When I was a "little kid" back in Santa Barbara in the '40's, I would
occasionally hear something besides Spanish spoken on the Rez in Santa Ynez.
Juanita Centeno, who passed on about 2 years ago, was the strongest link I
KNEW OF with that group of people. Her "husband", Jose Castillo (a Huichol
actually from Mexico) helped her with her classes the 4 or 5 years that I
actually knew her, and no doubt either has her teaching materials or at
least knows where they are. Jose and Juanita used to teaching classes all
over central California on Chumash Material Culture, particularly musical
instruments. I would recommend writing to the office on the Rez and contacting
Jose. If you are unsuccessful, I can probably get you an address/phone #.
