Probably off the subject, but going the other way, CJK (Chinese, Japanese,
and Korean) use something called counters for objects. As an English
speaker uses counters for non-count items (water (1 glass), flour (1 cup),
and rice (two bowlfuls)), CJK uses various counters for items such as: long
skinny objects (pens and legs), flat objects (paper), small animals, big
animals, etc. Generally speaking, CJK do not have sing/pl with some
exceptions for people.
