I'd like to advise interested parties that the Department of American
Indian Studies at the University of Minnesota will be sponsoring a working
conference on teaching native languages. The conference will be held in
the Twin Cities (near the Shakopee Dakota Community & Mystic Lake Casino)
March 14-16, 1996.

The specific focus will be on regional languages (Dakota, Lakota, Ojibwe,
Hocak, Oneida, etc.), but any interested person is invited. The intent is
to help native language teachers begin to network, to promote sharing of
teaching materials and techniques, to foster discussion of critical
language issues (English as an "Official" language, funding of language
programs), to present several topics for discussion (ITV, distance
education, etc.), and to help our program and the wider University identify
actions it can take to provide better support to the community and to
professional development of native language teachers.

Interested? Send your name and address and we'll keep you advised.
