A people has lived in a land for thousands of years. Then strangers
come, divide up the land without asking the permission of the people
who live there, assign the rights over it to administrators who have
nothing to do with that land. When the people of the land protest,
they are mercilessly crushed. Their houses and villages are destroyed,
their animals killed, they are driven into the mountains and hunted
like wild beasts. Because they were never permitted to have a 'nation-
state' of their own, so they have no official representation at the
United Nations. No government will listen to them. The governments
under whose jurisdiction they are placed persecute them. In some
regions they are forbidden even to speak their own language, even at
home in private. There is no justice.
Does this sound familiar? Please visit our conference 'mideast.kurds'
and you may find there an eerie echo of what you see here.
We should support one another. No-one else will.
