In response to what indigenous people call themselves, perhaps we
ought to consider what "Amis meant as "American." In the exclusive sense
it relegates the majority of people of color of this hemisphere to
invisibility. In the inclusive sense it encompasses everyone in Am`erica.
The culture of the aggressor has so permeated, that even the trivial
lends itself to the imperial semantics that help perpetuate the arrogance
and violence perpetrated against people of color. Just to mention one example,
the US baseball championship is referred to as the "World Series" when in fact
apart from the US teams only two canadians participate.

As we struggle to correct the historical record, we must be more sensitive--
"history is the propaganda of the victors."
