I strongly question the assertions Deb Gagnon makes against Peter Matthiessen's
book "In the Spirit of Crazy Horse", both because I find Mathiessen a very
credible person, and because the book by Churchill, and that by Brand on the
same subject agree with Matthiessen and seem also very credible to me. The
issue of the firefight and AIM's activities have apparently always been very
controversial and devisive on the reservations merely because of the U.S.
governments propensity and power in manipulating the people and politics of
those communities politically, economically, and indeed militarily. I strongly
suggest people read "In the Spirit of Crazy Horse", which is the result of long
and careful research by the author. I also strongly suggest to anyone in any
circumstance to be skeptical about any person who makes blanketing general-
izations about an important issue, refusing to be specific or to back the
assertions up with facts, with a clearly potential objective of dissuading
the conscientious from further research or investigation.
