Mining by Peabody on the Navaho Reservation

I had hoped to see an update on the threat to the Navaho of mining efforts on
the reservation by Peabody. This is an issue that should not be allowed to go
away. Peabody has a notorious history in Appalachia. Those on this list who
have seen the film "Matewan" know that Peabody was responsible for death and
other forms of violence against coal miners and their families in "bloody"
Mingo County, West Virginia, in the 1920's. It was also the company involved
in miners' protests over safety and health hazards in "bloody" Harlan County,
Kentucky, in the 1930's and 1950's. I have heard more than enough horror
stories from former miners who worked for Peabody to convince me this company
should be feared as you would your worst enemy. The Navaho would be well-
advised to use *all* non-violent means at their disposal to drive Peabody
*off* the reservation.
