The only thing that comes to mind is the story of Officer Norman Manyfingers.
Manyfingers received a lot of exposure during the last year following the
decision of the RCMP to allow baptized Sikhs to wear a turban in the course of
duty. Following this decision Manyfingers asked tyo be allowed as a member of
the Calgary Police Service to wear his hair in braids as an expression of his
native religion. He must have run into a lot a flak since then. Some time ago
he was granted the right to wear braids on duty, and at some time between his
application to wear braids and the decision that he could he wrote a letter to
the "Alberta Report" complaining about a racist remark that was made to him by
one of his superiors. (Why he wrote to the "Alberta Report" remains a puzzle
to me as it is a virtually undisguised mouthpiece and propaganda rag for the
Progressive (ha,ha) Conservative Government of Alberta.)
Because Manyfingers went public he faced a disciplinary internal hearing and
he was found guilty of violating this or that rule. He was not dismissed. Need
more info, let me know.
