Can you name one such group? I'm heavily involved in the
environmental movement, and while there are indeed groups with
questionable approaches, I'm not aware of any that have done
such a thing.

Don't go slamming a vague entity such as an "environmental
group" with "their own political agenda" without some specifics.
Most of the *real* environmentalist movement has little to gain,
politically, from its actions.
