After a week of holding off the police and Forestry Commission with an
array of physical and human barricades, the police have retired for the
weekend and protestors are are-establishing the blockade.
MORE PEOPLE ARE NEEDED TO STRENTHEN THE BLOCKADE.
3 BUSES ARE LEAVING NIMBIN TODAY.
MONDAY MORNING IS GOING TO BE THE CRUCIAL TEST.
PLEASE REMEMBER AT ALL TIMES THE PROTEST IS NON VIOLENT AND
PEACEFUL. SABOTAGE OR THREATS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.
We are aiming to have 2-300 people sitting on the road to challenge the
police to arrest everyone. The pipes and tripods have worked fantasticallly
well to date, but the time has come for peoplepower to reclaim this unique
forest from the imminent threat of roading, logging and burning.
NEFA wants all available people to join in a show of people power on
sunday afternoon. The situation is critical and everyone who can help is
desperately asked to do so.
Access to the forest is still open to the best of our knowledge, however it
may be closed on monday.
The announcement on Friday afternoon that an Interim Conservation Order
(ICO) will not be placed over the forest was made by Forests Minister Gary
West. This is a seperate order to the Interim Protection Order (IPO) that
we are asking Environment Minister Tim Moore to issue to prevent a breach
of the National Parks and Wildlife Act.
Do not be mistaken about the difference between a ICO and IPO. Our request
for an IPO has very good grounds based on NEFA legal advice and is likely
to be considered early next week.
We can win the battle to protect Chaelundi because of your involvement.
Now is the time to get everyone up into the forest to show our
committment to the planet earth.
To everyone that has joined in our fight to save Chaelundi I say thank you
wonderful people , you have restored my faith in human nature. To all who
read this and respond by going to the protest please hug lots of trees for
me. I wish I was there, but someone has to spread the message around.
Take care, love steedy
