If it were a movie, it might be called "Dances with Refuse". A growing
controversy has surrounded a Torrington , CT construction companany's
proposal to build one of the largest landfills on the Rosebud Sioux Indian
Reservation in South Dakota. RSW Inc. a sunsiderary of O&G Industries Inc.
is proposing the landfill in the hope it will become a model for large, safe
disposal sites to replace the small-town dumps that are fast filling up
throughout the country. Opposition has come from some tribe members and
environmental groups, who say RSW is trying to escape state environmental
scrutiny by building on Indain land.

The 16000 members of the Rosebud tribe are spread over a million acres, and
Hoben thinks the low concentration of people is one reason why landfill
proposals have been made to dozens of Indian tribes over the past three
years. RSW is deliberately using the promises of the creation of many jobs
and economic development to convince the tribal government to go in on such
a deal.

In an area where is unemployment is in the excess of 85% it seems to me its
a ploy once again drawn up by big business to try to cash in on something
they really want and really don't need. Here is a land clean, pure, and
fresh and once again they want to bring filth to there land. Some times I
just get sick and tired of what big business tries to do to those less
fortunate themselves.
