7th European Meeting of North American Indian Support Groups
July, 15 - 20th 1991, Stadtroda, Thuringia, Germany
SUPPORT RESOLUTION OF THE HAWAII TRIBUNAL 1992
Whereas
since time memorial indigenous Hawaiians (Kanaka Maoli)
have inhabited the mid-Oceanic islands known as the Hawaiian
Archipelago, and
Whereas
indigenous Hawaiian culture, history, language and spirituality
flourished until the encounter and clash with Captain James Cook in
1778; the Columbus of the Pacific, and
Whereas
indigenous Hawaiians exercised undisputed control of the
entire Hawaiian Archipelago, and that the international community of
the 18th and 19th centuries recognized this control at least until
1893, and
Whereas
on January 17, 1893, US armed forces, in an illegal act of
aggression that violated international law as well existing and
binding treaties between the Hawaiian Nation and the US, invaded the
indigenous Hawaiian Homelands in support of a locally formed
non-indigenous bogus and illegal "provisional government" which
with the assistance of the US, toppled the constitutional indigenous
government, and
Whereas
in 1894 the alleged "provisional government" became the
illegal "Republic of Hawaii", which through the theft of annexation
in 1898 was succeeded by a non-indigenous and illegal US "Territory
of Hawaii", which was then replaced, in 1959 by the illegal "State
of Hawaii", which circumvented the intent of article 73 of the
UN-Charter designed to promote the highest form of self-determination
of non-selfgoverning territories, and
Whereas
the once robust and healthy indigenous first citizens of
Hawaii are now in the poorest state of health, physically, economically
and spiritually; and
Whereas
this demise of the indigenous Hawaiian race is a direct
result of the illegal colonization of the Hawaiian people since the
armed US-invasion of January 1893, and
Whereas
the representatives and delegates attending the 7th EUROPEAN
MEETING OF NORTH AMERICAN INDIAN SUPPORT GROUPS in Stadtroda, Germany,
July 15-20, 1991, endorse and support the endeavour of the Pro-Hawaiian
Sovereignty Working Group and the Ka Pa Kau Kau, which is a coalition
of indigenous Hawaiian organizations committed to the assertion of
inherent sovereignty, in convening an International Tribunal in
September of 1992, to investigate the crimes of the US against the
friendly Hawaiian people.
And finally be it resolved that this resolution be sent to the
appropriate heads of government, state, native nations as well as
indigenous peoples and support groups.
Moved by Angela Warsitz and Renate Domnick (Society for Threatened
Peoples, Germany)
