7th European Meeting of North American Indian Support Groups
July, 15 - 20th 1991, Stadtroda, Thuringia, Germany

Resolution on better Human Life Conditions for Native American Prisoners
in the United States of America.

We as participants of the 7th European Meeting of Native American
Support Groups and representatives of several European countries -
Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Great Britian, Norway, Germany, Poland,
Italy, Netherlands, Czechoslavakia, France, Luxemburg - and Canada
heard about the many needs of Native American inmates in Federal and
States' prisons.

1) We demand equal justice for all Native American prisoners to that
of the white population, and fair trials, as well as fair treatment
within the correctional systems.

2) We request to allow every Native American prisoner to practice his
or her religion, ceremonies and prayers in the traditional Native
American way.

3) We ask for cells which have at least the minimum area of human
beings' living rooms.

4) We request that inmates, who are ill, receive immediate medical
treatment especially after operations.

5) We ask that Native American inmates be allowed close communication
with their families and/or spiritual advisors.

6) We demand that Native American women inmates be treated with
dignity and allowed those items specific to women's needs.
