DELGAMUUKW AND THE ABORIGINAL LAND QUESTION

A conference Tues Sept. 10 and Wed. Sept 12, 1991
at the Victoria Conference Centre Victoria B.C. CANADA

Co-sponsored by the Office of the Hereditary Chiefs of the Gitksan and
Wet'suwet'en People of Hazelton, B.C, and the University of Victoria.

CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES
- purpose of the conference is to provide a forum to learn about and
discuss the recent B.C. Supreme Court judgemetnt in the case of Delgamuukw
vs Attorney General of B.C. We hope to explore the key issues involved in the
aboriginal land question in Canada, how the Delgmuukw decision treats these
issues and other ways of viewing them. place Delgamuukw in the context of the
law and aboriginal rights and title in B.C. Canada and internationally create
more
understanding of the Gitksan and Wet'suwet'en assertion of ownership and
jurisdic-tion over their traditional lands. point the way to the future
resolution
of the aboriginal rights and title issues in B.C. and Canadan.

Speakers will be from Canada, the United States , Hawaii, New Zealand.
