I think "green man's burden" is quite appropriate. I teach in a
department where there is an emphasis on environmental ethics. As
I read your note, I remembered how several people in the halls
mentioned they went to Central American jungles this summer, and
this summer I received a postcard from a student visiting the
jungles of Costa Rica. These are all good, well-intentioned people
who come home inspired and sadened by the rainforests and their
people. But their trip left marks, I'm sure. A motorized vehicle
took them in, they had to eat something they could literally
stomache, etc
