this will probably be an unpopular posting.

i don't dispute the discussion about the philosophy and practive of native
american warfare; however, i feel duty bound to point out that there were
notable occasions when tribes did invade the territory of competitours in
wars of extermination. just to cite one example: the houdenosaunee confed-
eracy's war against the huron. by 1649 after a decade of war, the hurons were
destroyed as a nation, and faced the choice of flight (further west, or to
french protection) or assimilation by the victors.
