POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
INDIAN EDUCATION COORDINATOR
Description:
The Indian Education Coordinator will be located in the
newly-formed Office of Multicultural Affairs and will report
to its Director. The coordinator will aid in the
recruitment and retention of Native American students,
faculty, and staff and in the expansion of the university's
awareness of and responsiveness to Indian cultures and
values. The coordinator will track, counsel, and advise
Indian students, coordinate referrals to existing services,
maintain records of available programs, admission
requirements, and scholarships, and assist in recruitment
efforts. The coordinator will maintain liaison with tribal,
community, and national Indian organizations, other
universities, and government agencies. The coordinator will
also serve as an on-campus resource for faculty and
administration in the development of relevant curricula and
special programs, the preparation of grant proposals, and
the hiring of Indian faculty and staff.
Requirements:
The coordinator must have strong administrative and
interpersonal skills and a proven ability to develop
personal contacts in both the Indian and university
communities. The coordinator must have a proven counseling
and advising record with Native American students and a
clearly demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity to Indian
issues, cultures, and values. A BA with additional MA or
comparable work experience is required.
Conditions:
This is a full-time 12 month fixed-term no-rank faculty
appointment. Salary range: $25,000 to $30,000 dependent on
qualifications.
