The concerns of the Dominicans in the 16th century bear a
striking similarity to contemporary strivings to respect
and protect cultures that do not fit into the Western
cultural mainstream.

Proposals relating to the main theme, from the 16th century
to present, either in English or Spanish, are encouraged
from all disciplines. Possible areas for topics include
individual Dominican men and women, liberation theology,
colonial discourse, colonial legislation, colonial
architecture and urban planning, ecclesial history,
indigenous cultures, the founding of schools and universities.

Plenary sessions will include: Luciano Perena, Pontifical
University of Salamanca; Enrique Urbano, O.P., Centro de
Estudios Regionales Andinos Bartolome de las Casas, Cuzco;
Helen Rand Parish, University of California, Berkeley; and
Felicisimo Martinez, Director of Studies, Provincia de
Rosario, Hong Kong.

Please send one-page proposals for papers or sessions to:
