One book that I can think of off of the top of my head is the novel
"Fools Crow" by James Welch, himself part Blackfoot and, in my opinion,
one of the best novelists writing today. It is a fictional account of
one band of Blackfoot set in approx. 1870 and to its great credit is
neither highly sentimentalized nor romanticized; presenting instead an
extremely well-written account of a group of human beings.
