Support needed for Appeal Process
On November 4, 1991, Milton Born With A Tooth, Lonefighter Leader
will be in court to begin the Appeal process. It has been an
uphill struggle to get this far. We are determined to win this
battle with the court system and the Alberta Government because of
the injustice that was used against him. At this time we are in
dire need of finances for court costs and transcript cost. We have
received half the cost for the transcripts, speaking with our
counsel we need to raise the other half to continue with our case.
Milton will begin his sentence of eighteen months if we are unable
to meet the amount required.
Our lawyer, Karen Gainer has submitted seventeen rebuttals for the
Appeal. We have a very strong defence which includes racism in the
court system, inaccuracy of land entitlement, denial of our Native
Culture, the list goes on. Milton is out on bail pending the
outcome of the Appeal, he was convicted on seven of the eight
charges and sentenced to eighteen months in prison by Judge and an
all white jury. I have to stress that Milton should not be
incarcerated for his belief in defending our Land, Water and
Rights. He is innocent and has committed no crime when he fired
two shots in the air to Protect what is ours. The water gives life
to man, woman and child, it sustains life in the plants, trees,
healing herbs and all vegetation. Why should someone be sentenced
to prison for protecting "LIFE".
It is essential that we have finances to cover all legal costs, the
total amount is over four thousand dollars. The pressure is on our
lawyer and Milton to meet this amount "IMMEDIATELY". Should you
