CALL FOR TAPES 1992 * CALL FOR TAPES 1992 * CALL FOR TAPES 1992

1992 marks the 500th anniversary of Christopher Colulmbus' arrival in
the Americas. Spain, the Vatican, the United States and European and
Latin American governments are preparing many pompous events to
celebrate the "Conquest of America." Indigenous organizations have
put out a call to counter-act these celebrations with activities that
commemorate 500 years of indigenous resistance to European invasion and
colonization and that shed light on the contemporary struggles of
indigenous people.

In solidarity with this call Deep Dish TV will dedicate its 1992
schedule to programming that places the Quincentenary Celebrations in
a critical context.

Call for Proposals and Tapes

1492-1992

500 Years of ???

Deep Dish TV is dedicating its 1992 schedule to programming that
places the Quincentenary Celebrations in a critical context.

We are looking for tapes on the following themes:

* Made by and about indigenous people, indigenous perspectives on the
Quincentenary and comtemporary struggles for self-determination,
protection of land and natural resources

* History, legends, and myths; Official vs. unofficial histories; New
ways of teaching and studying history.

* Invasion, occupation, domination, and RESISTANCE from the "New
World" to the "New World Order," local and international perspectives
on the relationship between North and South, from military tours to
tourism, debt, displacement, immigration, racism, and OF COURSE!
strategies for survival.

* Grassroots responses to the Quincentenary, performances, teach-ins,
direct action.

DO NOT SEND TAPES! There are many ways to participate:

1. Send us descriptions of WHOLE TAPES. Include information such as
the length of the tape, year produced, format, subject matter, and
style.

2. Propose a SPECIAL PROJECT to be distributed by Deep Dish. We are
interested in collaborating with organizations by holding televised
teach-ins or providing news coverage. Send us your ideas.

3. Be a COORDINATING PRODUCER: Gather tapes on a theme from community
producers, edit excerpts into a compilation tape. Coordinating
producers receive an honorarium, a shoestring budget, and lots of
logistical support. Shows will be from March to August 1992.

We will consider tapes that are not in English if an English
transcript is available. We will try to subtitle them!

Tapes may be of any style, format, or genre; especially welcome are
tapes that represent a viewpoint rarely seen on televison.

DEADLINES:

Send descriptions of WHOLE TAPES for the Spring 92 schedule by
December 1, 1991.

Send proposals for SPECIAL PROJECTS and COMPILATION TAPES to be
produced for Fall '92 schedule by January 15, 1992.

Send descriptions of WHOLE TAPES for the Fall 92 schedule by April 1, 1992.

If you don't know whether your idea or tape fits in, just ASK:
