On the 4. November about 300 school- children from 4 Hamburg
schools and members of the group RETTET DEN REGENWALD
blockaded the Burmese ship SAGAING for 3 hours in the Hamburg
harbour. When the demonstrators arrived the unloading of teak
logs was suspended. Later the police ended the blockade. 90
percent of the timber goes to Scandinavia.

At least 30 boxes marked for the Defense Minitry ministry
where waiting for shipment to Burma. The German company Fritz
Werner operates an ammunition and gun factory in Burma.

Action against tropic timber will continue in Hamburg through
the next weeks. The same group of protestors had occupied the
CONOCO office in Hamburg in 1989 and 1990. The decision of
CONOCO to abandon her oil plans in Yasuni National Park,
Ecuador, has inspired the protestors.
