In her book (see below), Catherine Caufield mentions a similar
atrocity in Brazil.
On page 12 she says that the government's Indian Protection
Service (SPI) was disbanded in 1967 after it was discovered that
SPI agents were deliberately introducing smallpox, influenza,
tuberculosis, and measles into Indian groups and were engaged in
systematic murder and robbery of their charges.
