If you are interested in indigenous peoples' rights, forest dwelling
peoples and their use of forest resources, biodiversity, climate
stabilization, forestry, timber issues, global finance, international
debt, land tenure, de/re/a/forestation, or any of the other myriad of
issues involved in developing a global forest principle then you need
to read and participate in the discussion of the international Forest
Principles document now being circulated prior to the next
negotiating session of the United Nations Preparatory Committee
Meeting (PrepCom4) in New York City, New York, U.S.A. taking place
from March 2 to April 3, 1992. The PrepCom4 will address the Forest
Principles document along with other issues being discussed in
preparation for the United Nations Conference on Environment and
Development (UNCED), Rio de Janiero, Brazil, June 1 - 12, 1992.
UNCED, also known as the Earth Summit, will address a variety of
subjects facing the world as we attempt to develop a paradigm of
sustainable development. For more information, please see
en.unced.general (topics 220-222, I believe) for a description and
the Forest Principles document (in English). ALSO, PLEASE PLACE AN
ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT THE PRINCIPLES IN ANY/ALL OF THE
CONFERENCES THAT YOU VISIT --WE WOULD LIKE TO REACH AN
INTERNATIONAL AUDIENCE BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP.
Thanks.
