It may be very wise counsel "to remain aloof from taking sides in the
family fights Europeans have waged" [in the Peshewegunzh posting], but
those attacking James Bay 2 and Quebec Independence are taking sides
in a "family fight" in a rather obvious way. If some Native leaders
(such as AFN leader Mercredi) say they'll seek assistance from the
federal government against Quebec IF Quebec decides to separate, that
is decisive intervention on the federal side. There is no reason to
suppose that Quebec would be a worse negotiating partner than the
federal government, the opposite in fact. Why pick Canada over Quebec?
While I don't want to focus on the Nicaragua situation, isn't it true
that Brooklin Rivera (Miskito leader) is now sitting in the US-installed
government of Madame Chamorro? Didn't the CIA promote the Miskito
case against the Sandinistas? It's hard to stay aloof from these
"family fights" apparently.
