Here is my recollection of that decision. I cannot claim to be 100% accurate.

Percy Potts, Vice-President of the Indian Association of Alberta, had been
charged with illegally selling wild meat (moose) to undercover Fish & Wildlife
officers during a several month undercover operation.

The judge in the case found that trading or bartering in wild meat is part of
native culture and part of the hunting rights granted to treaty indians within
certain treaties and treaty areas. Those rights would subsequently exempt
treaty indians from the sections of the Wildlife Act that forbids trading or
bartering of wild meat.
