Is there really that much software out there for mailer systems that
provide no indication of article length?? I wonder whether the concern for
"long articles" "tying up my machine" is a problem of better figuring out
the mailer software involved.

Just a suggestion from one who learns the hard way in most things. :-)

[ I think what Peter is trying to get at here is that many modern mail systems will automatically count the number of lines in each message and display that information along with the date, sender, and subject line of each message in summary form when you first enter the mail system. Most of the mail systems I have used have done so, but I've worked mainly in a UNIX environment for many years, where people are accustomed to having good tools. --Gary ]
