This letter is in response to the soc.culture.indian.american newsgroup.

I sort of feel that indians/natives/aboriginal people in the States should
be termed by one name. I sometimes get confused with the American Indian/
Indian American term when somebody else is using the term. Sometimes, a
non-Native mixes up the two terms and I get confused as to whoswho. I think
that aboriginals from the States are called American Indians whereas Indians
from India living in the States are refered as Indian Americans.

In my opinion, Native American seems to be a better name because the name
reduces the chances of confusing aboriginals from the States with anybody
else.

[ Well, I agree with what Dana says, but the real issue here may be more
one of whether the use of the name has a potential for confusing Usenet
readers. Just the fact that Dana does get confused by the terms is
enough to make the point, I feel. --Gary ]
