It says on certain necessary U.S. government documents that I am
either an "American Indian born in Canada" or a "North American Indian."
Those commonly used terms, while originally created by others, do
provide a standardized reference for national/ethnic origin. It would be
confusing to have the same terms applied to people from East India, or
the West Indies.
