Daniel:

Welcome to the group! Let me just say that, seated as I am in Canada's
capital, your efforts at working to divest Tufts from Hydro-Quebec
holdings are noted with pleasure. Keep up the good work, and feel free to
post calls for support letters. Despite the (very interesting)
anthropological talk of late on this newsgroup, there are those of us who
are activists who like to hear what is going on.

Just some background for you on some of the more sinister things
Hydro-Quebec is doing in Canada.

In Hull, across the river, there is a dedicated group of environmentalist
sepratists who are actively trying to show that Quebec doesn't need James
Bay to make it alone in the world. The government has pegged hopes for
separation on the revenue generated by HQ. Hydro-Quebec is fighting this
group by actually getting into schools and holding contests for kids to
win a week long trip to the North to see the dams in action. Its hideous.
And of course, HQ won't debate the Cree or even appear on any panels
where they might face the heat. In fact I think the gathering in New York
last October was the first time Q spokespeople and Mattew Coon-Comb talked
publically to each other in a civilized setting (I.E. not from megaphones).

Myself, I work for a national Aboriginal organizations here in Ottawa, the
National Association of Friendship Centres, and would be happy to pass on
any information you might need, or give you a different view on things.

Keep posting, and chi meegwetch for your work!

Chris.
