FELLOWSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

*NATIVE RIGHTS EDUCATION COORDINATOR*

OVERSEAS DEVELOPMENT NETWORK, SAN FRANCISCO, CA

The Overseas Development Network (ODN) is a national non-profit organization
based in San Francisco which strives to involve students in addressing
global problems by providing opportunities for activism and first hand
experience. ODN carries out its work through a student chapter network on
40 university campuses in the U.S., international affiliates in six
countries, and partner relationships with community organizations in Africa,
Asia, Latin America and the U.S.

The Native Rights Education Coordinator will work as part of a team with
other staff and volunteers on ODN's Bike-Aid 1992 program. Bike-Aid is an
annual summer, cross-country, four-route cycling trip which raises awareness
of and generates funds for small-scale, locally-initiated community projects
in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the US. Since 1985 ODN has built
partnerships with and funded projects organized by indigenous peoples around
the world and in the US. This year ODN hopes to enhance this partnership by
developing a theme for Bike-Aid '92 that will focus on Native American
rights and the 500 Years of Resistance Campaign. Educational material on
the ride will focus around the theme, and Bike-Aid hopes to include more
Native peoples in the program as participants, hosts and international
riders.

Responsibilities:

%working with other staff and volunteers to design the theme program

%research and develop educational materials on native issues

%network with other Bay Area and national organizations working on
the Campaign and/or on native rights

%recruiting and motivating a diverse group of cyclists

%invite Native communities and organizations to participate in
Bike-Aid '92 as riders and/or hosts

%establishing new Native American host contacts in communities
along each of the Bike-Aid routes and maintaining contact with
existing Native American partners and hosts

Desired Skills/Experience and Compensation:

Participants in ODN's fellowship program are persons of
color interested in student issues and committed to working for
social justice. For the Native Rights Education Coordinator, ODN
is seeking an individual who is active around native issues and
the 500 Years of Resistance Campaign. Native Americans and/or
students are encouraged to apply. The fellow commits to a minimum
of 8 hours/week till June 15 and is paid $192 per 4 weeks. For
