Replying to Lyn DearBorn...

Native America 1992 was a big pow-wow held at Hollywood, Florida (near Miami)
last weekend. 500 dancers from 55 tribes, and quite a few drummers attended.
There was, I was told, $50,000 in prize money for the dancers. There were, of
course, many craft booths, the ususal assortment, but some good ones also. (I
am wearing a fine pendant of an eagle's head carved from a deer antler by
Steve Bradbury purchased there.) It was also supposed to have the purpose of
teaching non-Native Americans some indigenous knowledge to 1) portray its
value and 2) bring about awareness in this Columbus-focused year. Sadly, it
fell well short of this. I told the Ancient People Culture Project
coordinator, Charlotte White, about this and she will try to improve on it
in Native America 1993.

Does anyone know of a pow-wow being held in New England this year, as close
to Connecticut as possible?
