Eric Rehm asks about "indigenous science"- I'd have to say that I find
the term "cultural systems of knowledge" (of which Western science and
medicine are themselve examples) personally more palpable. Anthropologists
studying these systems have named the field 'cognitive anthropology' or
'ethnoscience', and its heyday was in the 1960's and 70's. A library
search under these categories should turn up lots of material.
