New England is ROTTEN with powwows, although a good number are joined
at the hip with the mountain man rendezvous types! Anyway, off the top of my
head is the Dartmouth powwow in Hanover NH held by the Indian students there
the second weekend in May each year, UMASS Amherst puts on several each year,
and the Boston Indian Council does, too. But in Connecticut itself, you
should contact the American Indian Archaeological Institute, who publish a
decent newspaper called THE EAGLE, which lists local (i.e. New England)
powwows on a regular basis, and holds one each August (or maybe around Labor
Day).
If anyone is interested, I'll dig up an address for THE EAGLE and
post it. I do not know exactly who these people are at AIAI, so I cannot vouch
for their "authenticity". You should also know that the Pequots have a reser-
vation or two in Connecticut, and (probably) also hold powwows.
