Listed below are several ideas to consider:
1. Center for Native American Studies "Bobby Wright Memorial Scholarship
Fund." Named after Dr. Bobby Wright, former Director of CNAS, now
deceased. The scholarship fund is for deserving American Indian students
seeking a higher education. This is a relatively new fund.
2. CNAS is developing an endowed chair of "Contemporary American Indian
Literature." The focus is on teaching the understanding of another
culture through the study of its literature. A must for Montana's
undergraduate tudents if they are to understand the larger world we live
in today. The chair will also work closely with Montana's seven tribal
colleges in their efforts in higher education and enhancement of
language preservation among Montana's ten tribes of American Indians.
3. Berger Endowment: endowment to CNAS from Phyllis Berger to enhance
American Indian student activities on MSU's campus, encourage research and
scholarly writing concerning American Indians, promote faculty development
for CNAS, and raise the level of awareness about American Indians in
Montana through public speakers and educational programs.
