Christopher Peters of the Seventh Generation Fund, organized an interesting
meeting of Indigenous spokespeople and the U.S. philantropic community in
the Bay Area on February 21, 1992. Three main topics were discussed: 1)
Traditional Beliefs and Contemporary Problems-an exploration of major issues
confronting Native people in 1992; 2) 1992-Hemispheric Encounters-advancing
the Indigenous peoples platform for social change, and; 3) San Francisco Bay
Area-The Myth of Discovery and Its Impact on the Urban Indian.

The IPA, Indigenous Peoples Alliance prepared for the ocassion a "briefing
packet". The packet was designed under the auspices of the Indigenous
Peoples Alliance with support from the Seventh Generation Fund. IPA is made
up of American Indian community organizations and support groups. The
Alliance has as its goal the facilitation of hemispheric communication
between local Indigenous groups and will advocate inclusion of indigenous
community concerns within wider networks of philantrophy and community
organizing. Eleven organizations from most regions of the U.S. and the
President of ONIC, The National Indian Organization of Colombia (South
America) attended the day event.

Christopher Peters, Executive Director of the Seventh Generation Fund
expressed his satisfaction for the meeting was a success. The South and
Meso-American Indian Information Center participated in the event. If you
