Mark Towfiq and the Ecology Center Fund are owed a great round of thanks for
bringing to light the horribly racist editorial by Andy Rooney. I apologize
for questioning it but I simply could not believe someone in his position would
write such a thing. But, he did and I just read it myself on page A7 of the
March 10, 1992 issue of the paper. (The article, by the way, appeared on the
10th, not the 11th as originally posted.)

[ Jim sent an earlier article saying that he was not able to find the article
in the March 11 issue of the _Sacramento_Union_ which I did not get around
to relaying when it came in yesterday. Given that this new information has
come to light, I see no point in relaying that article now. Following is
the text of another article which Jim has sent to the Usenet newsgroup
"alt.native" as forwarded to me by Mark Towfiq, author of the original
article about the offensive editorial of Andy Rooney. --Gary ]

The article is on page A7 of the March 10, 1992 issue of the Sacramento
Union rather than in the March 11th issue as originally posted.

I have never seen such an anti-Indian racist letter in my life from such a
prominent national media person. Mr. Rooney's abismal lack of knowledge
in Indian Affairs shows. Perhaps he has spent too many years in New York
City, far removed from the country, still occupied by Indians, that he
says they should join.
