Two other extraordinary female Native American writers are at the University
of Iowa. LeAnne Howe (Choctaw) is a talented writer published in various
collections who is working on a novel based on early Choctaw history. The
first chapter of that novel was recently published in No. 21 (I think) of
Fiction International out of San Diego State. LeAnne works at the University
of Iowa International Center. Susan Power (Dakota) is a wonderful writer from
Chicago who is also a Harvard educated lawyer. She currently is both an
instructor and a student in Iowa's famous Writers Workshop. Both will be
reading from their works on Thursday evening, April 9, 1992 at the
International Center.
