An additional thought on this individual vs. group orientation. If this
is an accurate description of two cultures, it would explain some of the
acrimony that surfaces on this list. On the one hand would be speakers who
assume they are speaking group truths, but who have listeners who are hearing
an individual. Alternately, you'd get speakers who see themselves as indivi-
dual seekers of truth, with listeners who consistently want to hear their
voice as representative of a larger group. Sounds like a situation full of
challenge to somehow avoid frustration and miscommunication.
