On a recent plane trip, I had the pleasure of sitting by an author who
is working on an article on self-determination. The article centers
around the Cherokee Nation, and pretty well holds it up as a model for
future work by other nations. The author has contacted people in North
Carolina, Tennessee, and Oklahoma, but was interested in talking with
full-blood peoples in Akansas, Missouri or Mississippi. His thesis is
that these people would have descended from ancestors who migrated from
the North Carolina area, and I believe he wants to find out what self-
determination would mean to these groups. Don't take my version of this
as gospel, because I didn't follow everything he was saying. If you
are interested in talking to this fellow (or know of some people that
he might want to interview), send me some email directly. He seems to
be on the level. Thanks.
