European Peace Pilgrims join Dann sisters

Sunday, May 24, 3 members of the European Peace Pilgrimage joined
the Western Shoshone Defense Project. With their presence at the
Dann ranch the Pilgrims give direct support to resist the seizure
of Western Shoshone cattle by the Bureau of land Management
(BLM).

With the treaty of Ruby Valley, signed in October of 1863, the
Western Shoshone agreed to cease war with the U.S. and to allow
the construction of transit roads, railways, telegraphs lines,
and mines. Military posts and ranches could be built to supply
these operations. In return the U.S. supplied tools and livestock
for the Western Shoshone to become ranchers. Nothing in the
Treaty of Ruby Valley ever sold, traded, or gave any part of Newa
Segobia to the U.S.A.

In 1974 the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) charged the sisters
Mary and Carrie Dann with trespassing for grazing livestock on
land claimed by the BLM, the land that the Dann's have been
farming for generations.

On February 8 the BLM seized 160 horses from the Danns, on April
10 the BLM did a new attempt to round up cattle, fortunately
Carrie Dann and her supporters could stop the capture of this
herd. As Europeans we support Western Shoshone Landrights.

The Pilgrims walk in atonement for what has been done to the
Native Americans over the past 5 centuries. We urge support for
Native American human rights and restoration of their land
rights. We also urge a worldwide Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban
Treaty, currently blocked in the UN by Western nations. We demand
a global protection of the environment and a cleanup of all
radioactive and toxic waste dumps. We promote the development of
clean renewable energy sources and a sustainable economy.
We walk out of respect for all Creation.
