I'm a recent subscriber to the list, and have been following the informational
items on NATIVE-L with interest. I'm glad to have an opportunity for
interactive discussion, and would like to pose a question to the list. I am
a librarian at York University in Toronto, and am in charge of providing
library services and materials to York's off-campus students. I have also
worked in Northwestern Ontario in the same capacity and am currently involved
in a research project to improve access for distance learners in Northern
Ontario. I am particularly interested in learning about the needs of Native
communities in this regard. I am aware of projects in the Southwestern U.S.
which have vastly improved access to research materials for Native students,
but am unaware of anything similar in Canada. So I would be grateful for any
information List-ers can give me regarding the needs of Native distance ed.
students for library/research/resource materials, and how best to fulfill those
needs.
