Having been an undergraduate at Rutgers University, and worked closely
with the Graduate Certificate Program in Native American Studies, I would
recommend that you use caution in choosing a program. I observed lots of
petty politics and power plays. There are some marks of brilliance to the
program, but they are lost in the squabbles and pettiness. I don't have a
specific recommendation for a school, but I do recommend that whatever one you
choose, that you ask the students that have been there about the behind the
scenes politics or, hopefully, lack thereof. I had great difficulty due to
other than academic difficulties, and I would therefore hope that you will
be able to avoid such difficulties.
